Hello and welcome to my portfolio page. I will use this page to showcase the work I have done and the learning I have achieved during English 1C/2C.

First, I want to list some learning goals that I set for myself and then explain how I met these learning goals:

  • List at least 5 learning goals that you set for yourself during the Summer and explain how you met each goal

>> for My first week of summer school my learning goals were-

1) to make sure i am a good student

  • I was able to achieve this by listening to the teacher and doing all the work i was given

2) learn something over these 3 weeks of summer school.

  • I learned things by also listening to the teacher and studying what needed to be studied

>> for my second week of summer school my learning goals were-

1) to get all my work completed

  • This was able to be accomplished by doing all my work and studying.

2) get good grades on all of my assignments

  • I got good grades on my assignments by doing the assignment correctly and finishing it.

>> for my third week of summer school my learning goals were-

1) to do good on my dialectical journal

  • I put a lot of time and effort on this project and i will hopefully get a good grade2) pass this course with an A

  • I have mede sure i passed with an A by turning in all my assignments and trying hard

Next, I want to explain how one of our reading strategies works. Below I will explain how to Chart a Text. Then, I will give an example of how I charted a non-fiction text.

How to Chart a Text:

    • >>the first thing you have to do is choose an article to chart the text on. when you chart the text you have to draw a T chart with two lines going down the middle so that it creates a thin column. on the right side you put "says" and on the left you put "does". in the middle lines you put the paragraph numbers.

My Example from "Horrible Images of Death in Haiti"

What does the author say?
Par.
What does the author do?
people find disturbing images that depict
death/human bodies.
1/2
setting up the article or writing an introduction
to prepare the readers.
readers oppose graphic images that do
nothing but expose tragedies of
innocent people
3/4
author presents opposition to the argument
of allowing graphic images to be published
news professionals have a difficult time
determinating what is/is not appropriate
5/6
7/8
author is demonstrating a naural fctor
between the argument
news professionals have taken steps to
be more casreful in showing graphic
images
9/10
the author begins to demonstrate a
proponent of being able to publish graphic
images
viewers don't like that there is no warning
on the front of the newspaper. it gets to
graphic for them
11/12
13/14
the author is giving evidence by telling the
readers what people have to see with no waring
and the image with no warning is the worst of
all images.
newspapers are unfiltered and people buy
the newspapers. they don't want to bring
home a newspaper with dead people in the
front page
15/16
17/18
the author is making the reader feel how the others
would if they were the ones bringing in that type of
news paper. he is proposing how people are going
to feel.
graphic images make people feel therefore give a good thing.
19/20
casting a proposal to allow graphic images to be published freely.

Finally, I want to showcase three assignments that I am especially proud of.

3 Part Source Integration-
In the article "Horrible Images of Death in Haiti" the author, Andrew Alexander, a ombudsman for the Washington Post, claims "Journalism is about truth, and the horrific images convey reality. Photos, even unsettling ones, are meant to capture our emotions" (par 19). This is important because images can make people do something about the event or disaster. when they just hear or read about the happening they are more likley to sit back down and continue what they were doing before. They also most likley would not be getting the whole truth from the article. "Words make people think, images make people feel" (par 20).
